PV444 was produced from 1943 to 1958 with FR layout. It is the first uni-body Volvo and the first Volvo in two decades to be with a four-cylinder engine. It was with 1.4l inline-four engine B4B and a downdraft carburetor. In 1950 the power was raised to 44ps and 51PS in 1955. In the US B14A was introduced with SU carburetor and 70hp. In 1957 the engine displacement was increased to 1.6 liters, and B16A and B16B engines were also offered. It was provided with a three-speed manual transmission. The body was based on the Hanomag from 1939.
