P444 was produced between 1943 and 1958 with FR layout. It is the first uni-body Volvo and the first Volvo in two decades to be with a four-cylinder engine. It was with 1.4l inline-four engine B4B and a downdraft carburetor. In 1950 the power was raised to 44ps and 51PS in 1955. In the US B14A was introduced with SU carburetor and 70hp. In 1957 the engine displacement was increased to 1.6 liters, and B16A and B16B engines were also offered. It was with a three-speed manual transmission.
