Volvo P1800 was produced between 1961 and 1973 as a 2-door coupe and 3-door sports estate. Approximately 39 000 notch coupe and 8 000 sports estate were built. They were assembled in England and Sweden and designed by Pelle Petterson. It was considered a sports car with a rear drive. In 1972 and 1973 it was produced as a shooting-brake. The mechanicals was taken from 122 series. It was advertised as a modern touring car, and James Bond in the movie The Saint drove it. It was offered with three speed Borg Warner 35 automatic, four-speed M40 manual and four-speed M41 manual with Laycock overdrive transmission. The engine was the B18 with 1800cc, dual SU carburetors and 100hp. It was also offered with twin carb B18D. In 1963 M40 manual gearbox was introduced. Since 1963 M41 gearbox with Laycock de Normanville overdrive was one of the most popular options. D and J type overdrive were available. It was with a higher top speed of 193km per hour and fifth gear. Roger Moore owned it. The 1800S was awarded the highest mileage private driven vehicle and is recorded in the Guinness book with approximately 4.8 million km in 2013 and about 5.15 million km in 2018 by Irv Gordon.
