They were produced from 1976 to 1991 with four and five-speed manual transmission. They are with rear-wheel drive, available as saloon and hatchback. It was first launched in the Netherlands. It included Volvo 340 and Volvo 360. They had a rear mounted gearbox that improved the weight distribution. They were considered reliable and safe at that time.
Volvo 343 was launched in 1976 with a 1.4-liter engine from Renault. The manual transmission was taken from the 200 Series. In 1981 a facelift was added, and the interior improved. Volvo 360 was discontinued in 1990, followed by Volvo 340 in 1991. Special editions were also made.
