Porsche 356 A substituted 356 in 1956. They are famous with the four-cam Carrera engine and are also known as Continental and T1 European. Porsche 356 was offered with 44, 60, 60, 75 and 100 hp in the models 1300, 1300 Super, 1600, 1600 Super, and 1500 GS Carrera respectively.
The curved panoramic windscreen makes the differences from the 356. The leading indicators were installed in the horn grille, and the taillights were in a teardrop shape. Porsche 1300 was withdrawn from production in 1958. In Porsche 1600, the tailpipes were then moved between the bumper guards. The models were made as Speedsters, Convertible Ds and Cabriolets. About 1200 Speedsters were created in 1957, mostly produced with 1528cc engines. Since Porsche 356 A, Porsche has been labeling the sports models as Carrera. The production of 356 A ended in 1959.
