It was produced from 1952 to 1953 as a racing car and from 1954 to 1963 as a production car. Approximately 3260 Mercedes 300 SL were created.
The first generation, W198, was introduced in 1954 as 300SL with 3liters l6 and 256ps engine. Approximately 3260 Mercedes 300 SL were created. It was available with 4-speed manual transmission. In 1955 started the production of W121- 190SL with 1.9 Liters l4 with 105PS. Approximately 26 000 were produced. They were available as convertible, hardtop and coupe. The output of the first generation ended in 1963. The roadster was then launched in 1957 with 3 liters l6 and 225 PS.
