The third generation, W140, was produced between 1991 and 1998. Approximately 430 000 vehicles were produced. It was an improved version of 126 and more costly. Parker marks on the back were upgraded, a new heat system and electric windows. In 1995 it was facelifted, and electronic stability control was added. It was offered with five-speed automatic and manual transmission and 4-speed automatic transmission with 2.8-3.2 liters l6, 4.2-5 liters V8, 6 liters V12 and 3-3.5 liters Turbodiesel l6 engines.
