The 7 Series has been in production since 1977, as full-size luxury sedans. Since then six generations have been built. Limousine models from the 7 Series are also available. Initially it was with straight-six gasoline engines, and later on, V12, V8 and inline-4 turbocharged and natural aspirated were introduced. In 1995 a diesel engine was also offered. They were delivered with all-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive with front-engine.
The first generation was produced from 1977 to 1986, the second from 1986 to 1994, the third from 1994 to 2001, the fourth from 2001 to 2008, and the fifth from 2008 to 2015.
The sixth generation has been in production since 2015.
Approximately 1 440 000 vehicles have been sold so far.
