It was produced from 1962 to 1965. It was available as a two-door coupe with 4-speed manual transmission, V8 OHV BMW engine with 3168cc 160 and disc brakes on the front wheels. It was a sport touring car and the first BMW with Hofmeister kink. It was also the last BMW with pushrod operated engine valves and solid rear axle. Approximately 600 were created. It was the ultimate postwar luxury BMW to be with pushrod-operated engine valves. It was used to develop new coupes later on, such as 2000 CS and 2000 C. It was the first BMW with such styling.
