The Audi Quattro was produced as a two-door coupe with five-speed manual transmission between 1980 and 1991 in Germany. It was used both as a regular car and also for rallies, also known as Ur-Quattro. The name signifies the four-wheel drive system. It was the first time used in the Quattro for racing, and it turned out to be successful. Many of the components were mutual between the Audi Quattro and Audi 80 Coupe from the second generation. It was the first vehicle to be offered with a turbocharged engine combined with the four-wheel drive layout. They were provided initially with 2.1 liters longitudinally mounted inline-5cylinder SOHC with intercooler and turbocharger with 197hp. In 1989 it was improved with inline-5 DOHC with 217 hp. Approximately 11 450 were produced. The model launched in 1983 featured green digital liquid crystal display electronic instrument cluster. In 1987 for the first time is launched Tosen center differential in a model. The models launched in North America were without ABS.
Audi Quattro Spyder was launched with 2.8 liters V6 engine with 172hp with five-speed manual transmission, four-wheel-drive and trapezoidal link with the suspension.
Audi Sports Quattro was produced in 1983, and 1984 with an added green digital LCD electronic instrument cluster changed to orange in 1988. The interior was redesigned in 1984, and new dashboard layout, steering wheel design, and interior design were added. They also had a small change on the grille and the headlamp lenses.
